Empower Corporate Benefits was founded on the principal of empowering corporate growth by helping clients access untapped ideas, new markets and unique opportunities to deliver benefit packages that are easily managed, fiscally responsible and compliment our client’s unique corporate culture.
Our Team
We have assembled a team rich in talent with over forty years of industry experience, eleven years corporate legal experience and nine years litigation/risk management.
Founder
Empower Corporate Benefits was founded by Reid Middleton. Mr. Middleton is a California licensed attorney and insurance broker with over 10 years experience as in-house counsel to some of San Diego’s most prominent corporations. Mr. Middleton has extensive corporate, business and legal expertise in addition to his experience and specialized training in employee benefit programs, business succession planning and overall risk management.
Prior to founding Empower Corporate Benefits, from 1995 through 1998, he served as in-house counsel to UCSD Healthcare where he advised physician groups and hospital systems as to insurance reimbursement, capitation and risk pools, managed care and employee benefit programs. From 1998 through 2001, he served as Senior Corporate Counsel to ALARIS Medical Systems, a $550 million publicly traded medical device and software company with 2,500 employees doing business in 120 countries. From 2001 through 2004, Mr. Middleton served as General Counsel and Secretary for The Upper Deck Company, LLC, one of the largest and most successful sports and entertainment publishing companies in the world.
Mr. Middleton oversees the firm’s benefit practice group providing insurance guidance and business succession planning to a wide range of mature and start-up businesses such as law firms, physician practice groups, local manufacturers and technology providers/distributors.
Mr. Middleton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Juris Doctor from The University of San Diego, School of Law where he was a member of the San Diego Law Review and served as its Lead Articles Editor. He holds life, health and property/casualty licenses in several states and is a registered representative offering securities through Transamerica Financial Advisors, Inc. He is also a published author and a member of the California and San Diego Bar Associations, the National Association of Health Underwriters and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.
